I’ve had a number of new subscribers in the past couple of weeks. Thanks so much for subscribing! And- thanks for sharing (for those that have shared)! Feel free to continue to share with anyone you think might want to contribute to the conversation in some way! Just point them to https://catalyzein.substack.com and then they can signup from there!
And please feel free to comment or reply to any of the emails with any questions or thoughts. You can also send me a message on Signal if you’d like. I’m very much developing my thoughts based on my experiences and understandings; if that is done within community the end product will be that much better!
As a brief interlude to the regular content, I wanted to outline what I’ve done here and help people “catch up” on the conversation. I may try to do this periodically depending on need and signups. These newsletters and posts unfortunately build on each other to a high degree and will not necessarily always make sense if taken in isolation.
Basically, there are three key threads I’m building on at the moment:
- An understanding of what movement is
- An understanding of what a movement catalyst is
- An understanding of how and why decolonizing is important
An Understanding of Movement:
I initiated this thread in this introductory post and laid out some basic notes on language and definitions here. I plan to pick it back up very soon as some of you have asked specifically about this. If that’s you - it’s coming! And probably very soon!
An Understanding of Movement Catalysts:
This thread is one of the main reasons this newsletter exists. It started with this introduction. It then continued in this exploration of Phase 1. I went into further detail about one aspect of this phase in exploring how we can find indigenous movement leaders. This continued for a couple of more posts as well: here and here. I’ll pick up with phases 2 and 3 soon, as well as deeper explorations of the phase 1 and the roll of a catalyst itself.
An Understanding of Decolonizing Our Work:
This thread is one that is particularly important to myself and a number of folks reading I think. I launched it with this post exploring they why question based off of my experiences. It continued with three posts exploring what I try to do: here, hereand here. I’ve been requested to pick this thread back up and explore specifically how our language, missiology and theology can also contribute to colonial mental models and then explore how to decolonize that. Look forward to that as it is sure to get me into trouble!
Hopefully for the new signups this is a helpful map of what I’ve been exploring here at CatalyzeIN and then where I’m looking towards. If you have any requests (that fit into these 3 threads) let me know and I’ll see what I can do!
PS: For those interested, most of the images come from Unsplash. The diagrams in the previous newsletters I created though on my tablet. Excuse the chicken scratch - at this point things are purposefully rough around the edges as the topics and discussions develop.
